What is the Car Breakers service?
With our Car Breakers service, you can purchase a Whole Car with the purpose of breaking it for parts at the listed location. Once you have reserved your vehicle online, you can contact the yard to book a seven hour time slot where you will have access to a breaker bay to remove all the parts you need.
- Browse our vast selection of Whole Cars available for breaking at both our York and Edinburgh locations
- Reserve your whole car (car breaker) online by paying a 10% deposit
- Call U-Pull-It to book a time slot for breaking your vehicle (you will need to call the yard where the vehicle is located)
- Visit the breakers yard at your allotted time slot, pay the outstanding balance and remove all the used car parts you need. Your time slot will be an entire day at the yard. You will need to reserve a time slot at least 48 hours before the time you wish to strip your parts.
Alternatively, you can visit one of our breakers yards in York or Edinburgh and browse the whole cars available for breaking in person, rather than reserving it online.
What if you can’t find the car you are looking for?
If you already have a salvage car and require facilities to strip green parts, you can reserve a space at either of our car breakers yards. Once you have removed all the parts you need we will then dispose of the frame for you in accordance with all current legislation. Removing Parts
Please note that you are buying the right to remove parts from the vehicle and not the vehicle itself; you will not become the registered keeper of the vehicle and you will not get a log book for it. You are purchasing the parts of the vehicle that you can remove and take away yourself in your timeslot, except for:
- The battery
- Any catalytic converter
- The vehicle’s frame
The battery will be removed from the vehicle before your visit. If you would like to buy a battery from us, you will need to pay extra for it. You may not purchase the vehicle’s catalytic converter or frame under any circumstances.
If you would like to take the engine or gearbox, we will need to remove these from the salvage car before you visit due to their size and weight. As such, there will be an additional fee of £40 to cover our labour costs for removing these if you would like to take them. For safety reasons you will not be permitted to remove the engine or gearbox yourself. See our used engines page for more information on how to buy an engine at U-Pull-It.
After your appointment we will keep the vehicle and dispose of the green parts you have left behind.
Tools are not provided for you, so you may bring hand tools and battery-powered tools with you. Power tools and cutting/grinding equipment are not permitted at our breakers yards. You will be provided with a safety vest and a wheelbarrow or sack trolley for carrying your parts.
Your Appointment
When you visit our breakers yards you will need to sign in and out at reception and agree to our safety rules, which include wearing safety footwear and a Hi-vis vest at all times.
If you need to change your appointment you can do so at least 24 hours beforehand. If you do not attend your appointment and do not give us 24 hours notice, there will be a rescheduling fee to cover the costs of preparing the car breaker for your visit. This fee will need to be paid before you come to remove any parts.
We will store the vehicle for you for up to thirty days. You will have to pay a storage charge of £5 per day before you come to remove any scrap car parts.
If you do not come to remove parts from the car breaker within thirty days of your original timeslot, the vehicle will be put up for resale in U-Pull-It’s Car Breakers Scheme. We will deduct the rescheduling fee and any storage charges from the proceeds of the resale, and if you paid by debit or credit card we will refund the rest to the card you used to pay for the vehicle.
