Summer Vehicle Checks before travelling

U-Pull-It’s 6-Step Summer Vehicle Check

Summer is coming but before it hits, we have a few tips to help you prepare your car for hotter temperatures.

Overheating

This is a common problem in summer with temperatures increasing. Your engine is capable of reaching temperatures of over 200 Fahrenheit so make sure to maintain your fluid levels, including motor oil & coolant. Also remember to keep a close eye on your temperate gauge to ensure the engine stays cool.

Air Conditioning

Like most people, you probably rely on air conditioning in the summer months. Remember to check your air conditioning unit in advance to see if it performs adequately. Any problems could be down to a faulty blower motor or problems with the fuses and should be checked by a professional.

Dying Battery

You are probably aware that car batteries are known to be faulty in extreme cold temperatures, but did you also know that hot temperatures can cause the same reaction? It’s important to keep a close eye on your car battery and prepare for any faults that might happen.

Brake Problems

Increased car journeys in summer mean more ware on your brakes. If you start hearing sharp noises from the area where the brakes are, it could mean a problem with the brake pads or something related to the braking system.

Tyre Troubles

As the temperature rises, so does tyre pressure. Therefore, the chance of a blowout or deterioration is greater. Remember to check the pressure and condition of the tyres regularly to avoid these problems.

Windscreen

Driving down dry country roads in the summer can cause loose stones to fly up and chip or crack the windscreen, so remember to drive slowly on these roads and reduce the potential for damage. It’s also important to check the windscreen wipers and level of washer fluid before any long trips to increase your safety.

Luckily, U-Pull-It can provide you with high quality used car parts so if you need to pick up any parts for your vehicle in preparation for a long drive this summer, get in touch with one of our breakers yards today.

Increment bidding allows Copart to increase your entered bid by one and only one increment in the event your entered bid is tied by a live virtual bidder. If your bid is the highest bid, then your bid will NOT be incremented. Our increments are based on the following table:
